Libya
In June 1977 a rig was moved into Libya for a long term contract with Arabian Gulf Oil Co. (AGOCO). This was the beginning of an association with the Libyan oil and gas industry which has continued unbroken ever since.

In 1979 a second rig was mobilised from New Zealand giving the company two rigs working on long term contracts in the country. In 1991 the third rig, was moved into the country. In the early 2000’s the two older rigs were decommissioned. In April 2005 the acquisition of three modern SCR rigs to cater for the upturn in activity following the lifting of sanctions.

Over the past ~27 years the company has conducted programmes for most operators in Libya including AGOCO, Veba, Wintershall, Pan-Canadian, Waha, Fina, IPLL, and Zueitina.

Gabon
The company's newest international operation was founded when it was awarded a contract to operate in Gabon in August 2003 providing drilling services for Shell Gabon. The rig provided, Rig #43, was a new build ADR 200.

The ADR (Automated Drilling Rig) is a highly mobile, fast moving rig. It has a minimal footprint hence minimising environmental impact and location building costs. It is designed to drill wells to a depth of 6,500 ft.

Rig #43 was built and commissioned by Ensign in Nisku, Canada and shipped to Gabon where it commenced operations in February 2004. Ensign has an operations office in Gamba staffed by expatriate and Gabonese personnel.

Ensign rigs have also provided drilling and workover services in Mozambique.
