Experience

Ensign has considerable experience operating in remote areas involving extreme climatic conditions. Its operations are fully supported with replacement back-up equipment, including drill pipe and drill collars, together with large inventory of spare parts to ensure that its rigs, camps and vehicles are kept in first class condition at all times.

Ensign personnel are familiar with the down-hole problems, which can occur in the drilling of wild-cat wells in remote or previously unexplored areas and are competent in overcoming such problems. They are experienced and skilled in operating in high-pressure areas and in fields where corrosive agents such as hydrogen sulphide are present.

Ensign has worked for most of the major oil exploration and production companies at various times. Among its past and present clients are Exxon/Mobil, Shell, Chevron, British Petroleum, Sasol, Elf Acquitaine, Repsol, Petroleum Development Oman, Unocal, Conoco, Devon Energy and all major Australian explorers (Santos, Origin Energy, Shell and Esso plus many others).

In addition to operating its own drilling and workover rigs, Ensign provides experienced personnel under labour contracts to operate rigs that are owned by other drilling contractors and operating companies. It has provided crews for a harsh environment jack-up unit in the Bass Strait, Australia, a semi-submersible rig offshore Western Australia and platform workover rigs in the Caspian Sea , offshore Turkmenistan and offshore New Zealand and has managed Operator owned rigs in South East Asia, New Zealand, South America and Australia. It also, from time to time, leases rigs owned by other contractors to perform specific contracts.
